Community Archiving As A Writer
"I am currently in the process of developing my second scholarly article focused on Lillian B. Horace, the founder and director of the I.M. Terrell High School Library in Fort Worth, Texas."
As a librarian and community archivist, I have developed the Texas African American Community Archives Project and am excited to share it with the world. Visit the TAACAP."
"As a librarian, archivist, and community historian, I developed this survey course in response to the ongoing erasure and politicization of African American history, archives, and cultural memory. This course is a radical assertion of community-based knowledge and archival sovereignty. Rather than wait for traditional institutions to validate my work, I’ve created an independent learning space rooted in Black archival theory, historical truth-telling, and cultural self-determination—designed to educate, empower, and preserve on our terms."
Dr. kYmberly Mieshia Dionn Keeton is a visionary Texas-based creative force—an award-winning writer, art librarian, Black scholar, cultural historian, archivist, and genealogy curator. As the founder of ART | library deco, a digital African American research art library and repository, and the principal consultant at The K Agency, Keeton brings innovation and intentionality to every facet of her work. Renowned for her leadership, advocacy, and collaborative spirit, she bridges the worlds of art, archives, and scholarship with a powerful lens rooted in community and equity.
Dr. Keeton’s interdisciplinary research focuses on African American community archives in Texas, the development of theoretical frameworks to support them, cultural philanthropy, and the evolving role of Black Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums (BGLAM). Her scholarship has been supported by the Institute of Human Studies, Pratt Institute’s DPOE-Network, the New England Archivists Society, and Drexel University.
A lifelong learner and community builder, Keeton holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy, Information Science, and Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of North Texas (2024).
